new album "The Lament Of Tumbleweed Hawk"
coming December 2011

back in the studio for new album Photo by Rosemary Bystrak

twelve songs of Americana Soul from JL and The DN, recorded at Lost Ark Studio in San Diego, California and featuring acoustic and electric guitars, trumpet, saxophone, pedal steel, whistles, banjo, harmonica, lap steel, organ, congas, piano and guest performances from Brian Holwerda and Jeffrey Lee Hawthorne of Blackout Party, John Meeks, Nena Anderson, Ben Simonetti, Ian Tordella, Rafael Salmon, Brady Alvarez, and members of the MLK Community Gospel Choir.

"…their music immediately impacts listeners with intensely focused passion and conviction, a mix of alt-country songwriting with R&B soul and pop sensibility. Jesse LaMonaca’s vocal ability is startlingly beautiful, as he pours out a vivid and heartfelt glimpse into his soul with each and every song. Like a story from an old friend or a moonlit dance with an old flame, Jesse´s voice stays with you.

The first time I saw Jesse LaMonaca live, I was instantly transported back through time, and across the country to a time and place when live music took over your body and transformed quiet small-town clubs into jumping celebrations of soul. As Jesse jumped and jived and grooved with the radiant joy of James Brown, as he belted with the commitment and sincerity of Van Morrison, and crooned with the soulful tenderness of Otis Redding- all in one 30 minute set, I looked around and saw that I was not alone in my bewilderment. I knew at once, as did everyone else in the room, that I was under the spell of one the purest musical talents on the emerging music scene today.

The lasting impact of LaMonaca´s music is greatly due to his soulful magnetic energy that attracts fans and friends alike. Not only is his voice powerfully transcendent, but his heart and soul shine though every performance. LaMonaca is the type of artist that means what he sings, he sings what he knows, and listeners connect to this authenticity. This raw voice is the driving force of the Jesse LaMonaca sound…"

JL and The DN proud to be part of Alex's Lemonade Stand- July 30, 2011

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) shares the vision of founder and creator, Alexandra "Alex" Scott-a cure for all children with cancer.

When Alex, who was diagnosed with childhood cancer just before her first birthday, was four, she told her parents she wanted to set up a front-yard lemonade stand. Her plan: to give the money to doctors to help them find a cure. Her first "Alex's Lemonade Stand" raised an astonishing $2,000 in one day. While bravely fighting her own cancer, Alex continued to set up lemonade stands every year. As news spread of the remarkable girl so dedicated to helping other sick children, people everywhere were inspired to start their own lemonade stands-donating the proceeds to her cause.

In 2004 when Alex passed away at the age of eight-her stand and inspiration had raised over $1 million towards finding a cure for the disease that took her life. Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation was started by her parents in 2005 to continue the work that Alex began. Their mission is simple: to raise money for and awareness of childhood cancer causes-especially research into new treatments and cures-and to encourage and empower others, especially children, to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.

Join us on July 30, 2011, as The Miller Tribe hosts their 6th Annual Alex's Lemonade Grand Stand, featuring a live broadcast from FM 94.9, live bands including JL and The DN and our good friends Blackout Party, letter writing to children with cancer, a silent auction, LEGOLAND tickets, and of course lemonade!

watch "The Left Coast Sunshine Tour- a solo journey to Australia"

solo journey to australia Photo by Amanda Dow

The idea of Jesse going on a solo tour to Australia had been floating around for some time, and at a Sunday afternoon BBQ last August with some Aussie friends, this idea suddenly got a heartbeat. In just six short weeks, all the pieces fell into place and a solo tour took shape- 10 shows in Sydney, Fremantle, Margaret River and Melbourne.

"You have to go on the journey to tell your story."

These words became the theme of the tour; a once-in-a lifetime opportunity for an unsigned artist to share his music on the other side of the world. Family, friends, fans and 11 sponsors made this tour possible, reaching out with an incredible amount of support and generosity and helping Jesse with everything from booking shows, places to sleep; even the round-trip plane ticket from Los Angeles to Sydney.

Using a Canon T2i, an out-stretched arm and the helping hands of friends, Jesse documented the tour, and then spent months editing the footage with Aaron Browning at Flicker Fusion Video. The story is told in three short episodes, with a bonus video of a live performance by JL and The DN at Lost Ark Studio recording a song that Jesse wrote while on the tour, a song called Other Side Of The World.

Jesse recently paid a solo visit to Dirty Blvd. Recording Co. to record one of their Dirty Thursdays podcasts, but unfortunately his voice was wrecked from a marathon of back-to-back shows, and they decided to wait a few days.

Jesse and Brandon returned to the studio a few days later for a solid and successful session, laying down four songs LIVE. Have a listen to the entire podcast.

This initial studio session was photographed by Michael Klayman. Click here to see Michael's photos.
